Rebuild credit and small-business capital after hardship
After hardship, credit and capital can rebuild — slowly, honestly, and without paying for promises.
Education only. Not legal advice, not a determination of your rights, and not a recommendation to take any action. Facts, contracts, deadlines, and current law can change the outcome. For your situation, talk to a qualified professional.
Start with accuracy
Pull your free reports, dispute errors, and let accurate, positive history age. There is no legal “quick fix” and no one who can erase accurate negative items for a fee. Anyone who promises that is a scam.
Build positive history
- Pay current bills on time — payment history matters most.
- Keep balances low compared to limits.
- Keep your oldest accounts open if possible.
- Avoid new high-cost debt while rebuilding.
For small-business owners
If a COVID EIDL or business debt set you back, free SBDC advisors and CalOSBA resources can help you plan. Rebuilding business credit takes time and accurate reporting. Do not pay for “guaranteed” capital or loans.
Free help
Nonprofit credit counselors (NFCC) offer low- or no-cost budgeting help. SBDC advisors are free for small-business owners. This is education — not credit repair or a loan offer.
